When do you take the acoustic solution into your monitoring scope

Received noise complaints, but could not confirm where the noise came from? Have you ever encountered a case that your machine is too noisy but do not know what it is? Do you know what to do to benchmark the “right” construction equipment in the acoustic term?

There are two essential supporting document systems to benchmark your environmental-friendly construction equipment – EU System and MLIT of Japan System. The application requires measurement and testing, change of ownership, taking stock of maintenance records to report, and preparing the essential documents. Those documents, such as Sound Test Report, need to be verified by certified bodies and signed off by the professionals.

On the other hand, acoustic solution helps you to find out a loud source.

It is often difficult for humans’ ears to identify where the noise is coming from. Professionals utilise intelligent acoustic technologies to find out the source of the noisy problems.

A compass – a compass is used for navigation and orientation. It is a tool giving us direction.

What compass is this when the compass is used to find the noise? Noise compass is using the correlation technique, calculating the direction and looking for the dominant noise source. The chief noise source in a rowdy and crowded situation can be found when there are significantly comparable sound levels. The accuracy of noise direction relies on the quality indicator to tell the diffuse field characteristic’s uncertainty. The highly unique noise source defines the quality level. Therefore, noise measurement using a noise compass can be tricky in an indoor environment and a reflective setting.

While the noise compass gives you direction, combining the sound level meter that can mark and separate the measurement from the defined order can maximise the use and the result.

We all care about our health – physical health and, more recently, environmental health.

What is environmental health? Environmental health is about the relationship between people and their environment, human health and wellbeing, healthy and safe communities. Social initiatives can be treated professionally, scientifically. And, we should. Importantly, our next-generation leader can learn about the environment scientifically.

The environmental health around us can be traced. Have the three goals to action in mind:

Goal 1 – know your built environment.
By your sensation, do you feel noisy in the surrounding? Do you sneeze, and is it about the dust? You do not see the dirt air with your eyes; does it mean the air is clean and clear? Do you recognise your area as a quality one?

Data has our story – structure or unstructured. When we could find the pattern, data will enable us to monitor the situation. We will identify factors affecting noise and dust levels through data collection, the correlation between noise, dust, and the external environment, and mitigation effectiveness.

Technology inspired by ESG

It is not hard to see organizations taking International days as one of the topics for communications on social media with their audience. International Women’s Day, World Environmental Day, World Oceans Day are just a few of the examples. When we are looking into the meaning of these International days, they are addressing the area of ESG – Environmental, Social, and Governance.

ESG is said to be an issue that countries must concern about. United Nations’ Paris Agreement, Sustainable Development Goals set out to urge countries to action and to put effort into raising awareness. For traditional businesses, it is time to rethink their business and management approach; for listed companies, green financing and listing rules would be the points for them to repurpose their strategies. For Start-ups, ESG is a business opportunity.

The year 2021 has arrived. Reviewing the past, the year 2020 in Hong Kong is challenging, politically, socially, and economically. Still, the Year 2020 is the Hong Kong Exchange’s 20th Anniversary—Hong Kong’s ESG reporting reaches another milestone this year. After July 1st, 2020, the ESG Guide and related Listing Rules will be enhanced, with some changes being introduced. Two key differences are the amendment of the “Environmental” key performance indicators (KPIs) to require disclosure of relevant targets and the disclosure obligation of all “Social” KPIs to “comply or explain”.

What does it mean? Companies are now required to set the aims of their actions relating to the environmental aspect. “Comply or explain” rules the governance of the companies to address the social issues. Such rules upgrade directs the companies to necessarily care about ESG matter. At operation level, ESG data has to be authentically and recorded and provided for reporting, to communicate with the Investors about how the companies are doing.  

This underlies a business opportunity – ESG data will be stored and reported in a digital format, available for upload and download. This gives rise to an ESG Dashboard – to incorporate the ESG integration and help the listed companies to identify potential process across all ESG activities that can result in long-term value creation.
